ABOUT THE SAVE PLANTATION COALITION

The Save Plantation Coalition consists of River Club members as well as Plantation Subdivision residents.  We are all concerned about the future of the golf course and the club.  For the members and residents Plantation has always been a tight community, no one wants to lose that feeling of community.

For several years now, ACHD has been planning on widening State Street and changing the Pierce Park/State Street intersection.  Originally the ACHD plan was to take a part of the #10 fairway to accomplish the widening.  Of course, that meant Plantation golf course would lose at least one fairway and a major redesign of the course would be required.  Gustafson planned on putting a mixed-use development on what was left of #10 fairway.  The ACHD plan has now changed, they will acquire and use the property on the north side of State Street for widening the road.  Gustafson’s plan has not changed, #10 will be developed and probably more.

The neighbors and members are certainly concerned about the future of the property.  The developers are committed to some development of the golf course.  While everyone may differ on what the optimum use of the golf course is, a middle ground needs to be found.  And that is where the Save Plantation Coalition will be focusing; working towards a resolution that maintains the community of Plantation knowing that the golf course will change.

OUR MISSION IS TO DO WHAT WE CAN TOWARDS SAVING THE RIVER CLUB

We intend to provide timely information to the residents, members, and others concerned about the golf course.  Information that is as accurate as possible and that might affect the club, community, and property of The River Club.  We want to encourage open dialog between the various factions with the goal being the best possible outcome.
