The Garden City Council hearing on the updated Comprehensive Plan – the city’s vision for the future – has been postponed from the scheduled Monday, May 13th, meeting and no date for a new hearing has been set. The open space recommendation for Plantation Golf Course is part of the update.
At a Thursday council study session on the plan, Mayor John Evans announced the delay and said he wanted to make recommendations for the consideration of council members, who will need more time to review the material. The mayor said an open house may be scheduled to allow for additional public input on the plan before it comes before the council, possibly in June.
The Coalition will send out details about any open house or council hearing as soon as they are available.
As currently written, the updated plan designates Plantation Golf Course as “Future Park/Open Space,” correcting an error in the 2006 plan, which left it with no listing. The current zoning of Plantation is medium density residential, or up to six homes per acre.
The plan does not control but can influence what is allowed to be built on a property. Any rezoning of the property to allow higher-density, mixed-use development – something Glass Creek LLC has said it wants to pursue – would have to take into account the open space designation, something the Coalition wholeheartedly backs.
